Exploring Employees’ Digital Footprint and What Role the Metaverse Will Play in SaaS Platforms

Enhanced Participant Experience service by Shareforce

Fostering your employees’ digital footprint has never been easier. Constantly being surrounded by technology has significantly influenced how we as a society operate. Businesses, particularly Software as a Service (“SaaS”) businesses, act as essential machines in leading digital solutions. The drivers of these machines, however, are the employees.

If the pandemic taught us anything, it’s that prioritising your employees’ experience is key to maintaining stability in this ever-changing world. It’s been tried and tested that working from home has improved employees’ efficiency, and we only have SaaS-based products to thank for the smooth transition from cubicle to cloud. So, why stop there?

We have come a long way from the stone age to the software age, but we’ve only just scratched the surface of what technology can do for us. There is still much to be discovered within the technological universe, and exploring how the metaverse can significantly influence our digital lives and the way we work is an exciting start…

But before delving into this, let’s start with the basics.

What is a digital footprint, and how is it connected to cloud-based software?

In simple terms, a digital footprint refers to the trail you leave behind when you use the internet. This trail can be used to track a person’s online activities and devices. Don’t worry, it’s not as invasive as it sounds. On the contrary, the Software as a Service phenomenon has positively affected digital footprints.

SaaS platforms allow multiple users in different departments to access a single data source, which not only reduces the constant communication between various departments but also inadvertently paves the way for your employees to create a secure audit trail, which we know to be the digital footprint of the business world.

What is Software as a Service?

Software as a service (SaaS) is a way of delivering applications over the internet (as a service). Instead of installing and maintaining software, you simply access it via the internet, freeing yourself from complex software and hardware management.

And, bonus! SaaS platforms are web-based making them easily accessible from any device, no matter where you sit in the world.

There is a wide range of SaaS products, such as Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools, Key Performance Indicator (KPI) measuring systems, and incentive plan management software that have proven to be useful collaborative tools for boosting employee productivity and efficiency in the workplace.

What is the metaverse?

Though often only mentioned in the science fiction context, the metaverse is a very real and fast-approaching concept that will soon shape the design and functionality of SaaS platforms globally.

So, what exactly is the metaverse? Simply put, it is described as a network of 3D virtual worlds focusing on social connection. The metaverse allows people to be more interactive than conventional social platforms and differs from traditional platforms in that it offers a fully immersive experience.

Think of the internet as a space for people to “browse” without ever interacting with other people, and the metaverse as a space for people to “live” and engage entirely virtually – be it for work, school or simply for fun.

How is the metaverse relevant to SaaS platforms?

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, summed it up perfectly. He said, “It’s always been obvious to me that computing over time will adapt to people rather than people adapting to computers.” Essentially the future of technology is becoming much more immersive, and SaaS platforms are no exception.

Gamification tools, automation of tedious tasks, and allowing countless employees to effortlessly co-work in a single online environment are all elements tied to the metaverse that are relevant to your everyday work.

By accepting the inevitable progression of the metaverse into your daily routines, you’ll learn that it’s not as intimidating as it seems, and that SaaS solutions are there to allow for an easy transition.

The question is, are your SaaS platforms gearing up for our not-so-new virtual world?
